Admissions Process

Masters (LLM) (thesis based or coursework based)

  1. High second-class standing (B average or Upper Second Class Honours) in Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from Dalhousie University or other recognized law school.
  2. At least two supporting letters of reference, preferably from academics.
  3. Statement of Research Proposal (for thesis applications)
  4. CV

Application Deadline: January 31

Doctorate (JSD)

  1. First degree in law with at least an A average, First Class Honours or equivalent, and
  2. at least 2 supporting letters of reference, preferably from academics
  3. Master's degree in law, and
  4. Outline for proposed dissertation, 
  5. Detailed description of research plans
  6. CV

Application Deadline: January 31

Preference will be given to candidates with established credentials evidenced by published scholarship of a professional calibre. 

English language proficiency

Candidates whose native language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in English before admission. The standard test is TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). It is also recommended that potential students take the Test of Written English component of the TOEFL. The following tests will be accepted with the following minimum scores:
