The Marine & Environmental Law Institute at the Schulich School of Law is internationally recognized for excellence in marine and environmental law teaching, research and capacity building.
Within the Marine & Environmental Law Programme (MELP), students have a unique opportunity to learn about public and private law practice in marine (including shipping) and environmental law taught from domestic and international perspectives. Students wishing to specialize in these fields have the option of obtaining a certificate of specialization in either Marine Law or Environmental Law or both, while completing the three-year JD degree (formerly known as the LLM degree).
Specialization within the Marine & Environmental Law Programme (MELP) extends to the graduate level. Since 1974, MELP has provided JD (formerly known as LLM) and graduate students (LLM and JSD) with one of the most extensive academic course offerings in these two fields in the world.
