Dean of Law from July 1, 2005 - June 30, 2010, cross-appointed to School for Resource and Environmental Studies. Acting Dean, 20001-2002. Research Fellow, Centre for Foreign Policy Studies. Member of the Nova Scotia Bar. Teaching and research interests in international marine and environmental law, maritime boundary delimitation, tort law, judicial remedies and international fisheries law.  

Professor Saunders was formerly with the International Centre for Ocean Development, as Senior Policy Advisor and as Field Representative, South Pacific. He has managed and delivered development and training projects in the areas of marine and environmental law in the South Pacific, the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean, Southern Africa, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central America and Russia. He acted as counsel for Nova Scotia in the arbitration of the boundary between the offshore areas of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, and has recently authored a study on policy options for straddling stocks on the Grand Banks for the Newfoundland and Labrador — “Royal Commission on Renewing and Strengthening our Place in Canada.”
