JESSUP MOOT TEAM HEADING TO WASHINGTON

Dear Faculty and Friends,

I am delighted to report the results of this year’s Jessup Moot Court Competition. The Dalhousie team, made up of Amy Anderson, Michael Fenrick, David Mollica and Daniel Watt, competed in the Canadian round of the moot in Saskatoon this past weekend. They battled their way successfully through the challenging preliminary rounds, coming in with a 6-0 record and an overall standing of 2nd.

That standing gave them a berth into the final round, where Daniel and Michael argued the Applicant case of this international law problem against the University of Toronto. In the result, they won that round and achieved second place overall in the competition, which means they will go on to the International Round in Washington, D.C. in early April, along with the first place team, University of Ottawa (Common Law).

They also won prizes for their written submissions: Best Applicant Memorial and Second Place Memorials overall. Moreover, Amy was the 9th ranked oralist in the competition, Daniel was 8th and Michael was 6th.

Anything I wrote about how proud I am of these four students would be an understatement.  They came together and worked hard and well as a team, from the outset of the course in September until this past weekend.  They have acquitted themselves marvelously and brought honour upon Dalhousie Law School.

I would like to explicitly thank our “celebrity guest judges,” and others who assisted the team along the way (and incorporating by reference the mooters’ supportive families!):

Bill Fenrick; Moira McConnell; David Schermbrucker; Heather Burchill; John Hope; Katie Edmunds; Charles Perez; Joseph Chedrawe; Adrienne Bowers; Dean Phillip Saunders; Stephen Kingston; Brad Proctor; John Rice; Justice Joel Fichaud; Justice Linda Oland; Nicole Arsenault; Dorianne Mullin; Shani Briffa; and Prof. Karin Mickelson

I know you join me in wishing the team the best of luck in Washington.

Best,

Professor Rob Currie
